Assam Rifles recovers two Burmese Pythons

Silchar : In yet another success in its crusade against the smuggling of exotic animals, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered to exotic animals-two Burmese Pythons snake from Zokhawthar region of Mizoram’s Champhai district on Monday.

The operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles based on specific information.

The recovered exotic animals were seized by the Forest Department, Champhai district for further legal proceedings.

It is pertinent to note here that the ongoing smuggling of exotic animals is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Mayanmar Border. Assam rifles rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been relentless in their efforts against smuggling activities in Mizoram.
