Bethukandi Dyke breach case : Cong. submits memo to Assam Governor

Silchar : Silchar District Congress Committee led by its president Tamal Kanti Banik on Monday, submitted a memorandum addressed to Assam Governor through Cachar ADC Mansoor Ahmed demanding strict action against those involved in damaging the Bethukandi dyke that led to the flooding of Silchar. The dyke provides protection to Silchar. They also alleged that the construction of flood embankment along the left bank of river Barak from North Krishnapur to Tarapur at Bethukandi Area of Silchar Town including protection work 2019-20 is yet to be completed.

The memorandum stated that Silchar DCC had come to know that the work related to the protection of the dyke in Bethukandi was of very low standard. It is being supervised by divisional SDO Debobrata Paul & Asst. Engineer Bhaskar Roy.

Moreover, when the half done protection work was severely damaged by the floods that occurred in the month of May, to reduce the pressure on the protection work, a blue print was drawn to cut dam somewhere. Though arrest have been made, Silchar DDC demanded proper interrogation and through investigation.

The memorandum further stated if proper investigation is carried out, more names will appear. They damanded strict and harsh punishment for all those involved in the case.

Silchar DDC alleged that relatives and close associates of the rulling party are involved in it. They said attempt are being made to hide their faces. Tamal Kanti Banik was accompanied by Kishore Bhattacharjee, Ashish Acharjee, Rajdeep Banik, Bhaskar Das, Anis Ahmed Ansari & others
