Cachar ADC Yubraj Borthakur passes away at 44

SILCHAR, May 25 : In a deeply saddening turn of events, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar, Shri Yubraj Borthakur, a promising officer breathed his last at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad, this afternoon at around 4:30 PM. The 44 Year-old dynamic officer, a member of the 2015 batch of the Assam Civil Service (ACS), was undergoing treatment for a severe medical condition identified as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).According to one of his attendants, ADC Borthakur had been admitted to AIG Hospital on the afternoon of May 15 after being diagnosed with IBD, a complex and painful gastrointestinal disease. As his health deteriorated, he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on May 17.

Dr. Aniruddha Pratap Singh, the attending gastroenterologist, noted that an immediate surgery was imperative. However, a persistently high fever, severely low blood pressure, and a compromised immune system rendered surgical intervention impossible. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, his condition worsened significantly over the last 24 hours, leading to his untimely and tragic demise.His mortal remains will be flown to his native place in Dibrugarh on Monday, where the cremation will be held with full honors. Shri Yubaraj Borthakur is survived by his father Shri Dulen Kumar Borthakur, his brother Shri Debraj Borthakur, and his wife Smt. Akansha Sharma Borthakur.Shri Yubraj Borthakur had been serving as the Additional District Commissioner of Cachar since 2022. He also held the responsibility of Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), playing a pivotal role in disaster preparedness and relief coordination in the region.

ADC Borthakur began his administrative career in 2017 as an Assistant Commissioner in South Salmara. Over the years, he held several significant positions, including Circle Officer of Nagaon and Dolgaon, and Sub-Divisional Officer in Hailakandi district. Known for his efficiency, humility, and unwavering dedication, ADC Borthakur earned the admiration of his peers and the love of the public.Apart from his administrative duties, he was also known for his deep passion for music. A gifted singer, he frequently performed at cultural gatherings and was appreciated for his melodious voice and artistic flair.

The news of his passing has cast a pall of gloom over the Cachar district administration. Colleagues and staff have expressed profound grief at the loss of a compassionate officer and a noble soul.

District Commissioner of Cachar, Shri Mridul Yadav, IAS ,has also expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, “The untimely passing of ADC Yubaraj Borthakur is a tremendous loss not just for the administration, but for the people of Cachar whom he served with dedication and humility. His commitment to public service, his professionalism, and his calm demeanor will always be remembered. We have lost a brilliant officer and a compassionate human being.”

The sudden demise of such a dedicated officer has left a void not just in the administration of Cachar, but across the entire civil service fraternity. Shri Yubraj Borthakur’s legacy of service, integrity, and humanity will continue to inspire future generations of civil servants.
