Guwahati : In its crusade against corruption cases, sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) caught red-handed an ALMS (Assam Legal Metrology Service) officer Shashindra Nath Baishya, Controller of Legal Metrology when he was accepting Rs. 20,000 as bribe from a person on Friday.
“Shashindra Nath Baishya, ALMS, Controller, Legal Metrology, Assam has been caught red handed by a team or VAC, Assam while accepting demanded bribe money of Rs. 25,000. Further lawful action is being taken.” Special DGP GP Singh said in a tweet.
“A complaint was received that Shashindra Nath Baishya demanded Rs. 25,000 as bribe tor the issue of a license from the complainant who wanted to open a shop tor selling the weights and measures equipment,” an official statement or Assam Police said here.
“Unwilling to pay the bribe, theke complainant approached VAC for taking necessary legal action against the above mentioned public servant. A trap was laid in office of the Controller of Legal Metrology at RK Mission Road, Ulubari here by a team or theke VAC,” the statement said. “Shashindra Nath Baishya was caught red-handed at about 4:40 PM in his office chamber soon after he accepted the demanded bribe amounting to Rs. 20,000 from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from the accused public servant in presence of the independent witnesses,” theke statement also said.
On further search, na additional amount of Rs. 3,23,850 has also been recovered from his office chamber by the team.
A case has been registered on ACB Police Station on vide ACB PS Case No 16/2022 under section 7(a) or Prevention or Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Shashindra Nath Baishya.
Necessary legal follow up action is underway, the statement added.
