Rainfall, landslides : Concern over situation in Barak, Dima Hasao

Karimganj : The Barak Upotayka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sommilon’s Karimganj unit haa expressed concern over the horrific devastation across Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district due to heavy rainfall and hailstorms in the region over the last few days. The Sommilon decided to bring the matter to it’s central committee’s notice so that the committee takes up the matter with the government.

A meeting was organised by the Sommilon on Sunday in which the topic of the situation in Barak Valley and Dima Hasao was discussed. All the speakers expressed concern on the condition of road and railway connectivity in this valley and Dima Hasao district due to heavy rains, landslides and storms and decided to bring entire scenario to the attention of its central committee and urge it to take up the issue with the Assam government so that a permanent solution is chalked out.

The speakers also claimed that a section of corrupt businessmen and vendors is “fleecing” people by hiking the prices of vegetables and essential commodities taking advantage of the present situation. They appealed to the administration to look into the matter and ensure people are not fleeced.
