Sanghamitra Baishya, Kalpana Das pledge to donate eyes

Silchar : Sanghamitra Baishya of Malugram, Silchar, and Kalpana Das of Vidyasagar Sarani, Silchar, on Saturday, pledged to donate their eyes after death. Mithun Roy, secretary, SAKHSAM , South Assam region, said, “At present, there are around 40 lakh people in India who are suffering from corneal blindness. Each year, around 25,000-30,000 people lose their cornea. People should come forward to donate their eyes. The eye bank of SMCH, which was set up four years ago, has benefitted 25 people here.” Biswaraj Chakraborty, joint secretary, SAKHSAM, South Assam region, Surajit Shome, executive president, Smile Foundation, Shanku Sharma, journalist, were present.
