Road accident in Cachar; 11 injured

SILCHAR : Eleven persons, including the driver of a sumo vehicle, were injured after the sumo collided head-on with a truck on national highway-306 in Narsingpur under Sonai police station in Cachar district on Sunday.

As per reports, the accident took place around 6:35 AM on Sunday when a sumo coming from Mizoram with passengers had a had-on collision with a truck on the highway in Narsingpur, around 17km. from Silchar town. 10 passengers and the driver of the sumo were injured in the accident. The driver and two passengers, who were on the front seat of theke sumo, got critically injured. Most of the injured people got stuck inside the mangled sumo and police with the help of local residents rescued them from them car. The injured person were sent to SMCH. for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the sumo collided with the truck while trying to overtake another vehicle at a high speed. The sumo driver could not control speed and this ultimately resulted in the catastrophic crash.

The names and other details of the injured persons were not available till the filling of this news report.
